Emergency Services

Help is available on a limited basis for minor car repair or short-term assistance to get to job training or look for employment. Meal, thrift shop and shoe vouchers can also be accessed on a limited basis.

Crisis Rental Assistance
Crisis rental assistance is issued on a fund availability basis and is only for persons with an eviction notice or those in need of a deposit to secure housing. People must meet with a Family Development Specialist to determine eligibility, and to see if there are other possible solutions. The one-time assistance has a limit of $250.00.

Emergency Shelter Assistance
Motel vouchers can be issued to people who are currently homeless. These are available on a limited basis. An appointment with a Family Development Specialist is needed. A household is allowed two to three nights per year depending on the situation and their needs.

Transitional Housing Assistance
Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA)
Transitional Housing Operating and Rent Program (THOR)
CAC operates a transitional housing program that provides subsidy for rent based on household income.
Candidates are screened and assessed by a Family Development Specialist and an application is submitted based upon the initial screening and assessment process.
Participants may be, but are not limited to, homeless families, families with children, families that are interested in working with a Family Development Specialist to identify goals and develop and action plan.
Families that are in need of emergency housing assistance are asked to contact a CAC Family Development Specialist to arrange an appointment. Funds are available on a limited basis, and there may be a waiting list for these programs.

Emergency Energy Assistance
Project Share provides one-time emergency heating assistance to local families and individuals experiencing hardship. Anyone having a shut-off notice from a utility provider, or out of heating fuel, may seek assistance.
To apply for assistance contact CAC and make an appointment with a Family Development Specialist. The Specialist will help to determine need and explore ways to avoid discontinued service.
Project Share assistance is limited to $300.00 and may be accessed only once per calendar year.

Limited Transportation Assistance
Transportation assistance is available on a limited basis and contingent to fund availability.

Assistance may include:
Gas vouchers
Bus tickets/tokens
Minor car repair.

Gas vouchers are available to people who have a documented job interview or medical appointment and are limited to the amount of gas it would take to get to and from the particular appointment or interview. They are limited to one per year.
CAC staff can assist with referral to existing transportation systems in Whitman County.
Anyone seeking transportation assistant MUST schedule an appointment with a Family Development Specialist. Please schedule an appointment in advance of need when possible.

Thrift Shop Vouchers
Thrift Shop vouchers are available:
     Monday and Thursday 9-11 a.m.
     Wednesday from 4-6 p.m.
     During a scheduled appointment

A voucher is given and documents the items a household needs. Vouchers are redeemable at the Community Congregational Thrift Shop- 525 NE Campus in Pullman.

Shoe Vouchers
Shoe vouchers are available through Pullman Child Welfare. Their phone number is 338-0801.

Meal Vouchers
Meal vouchers are available on a limited basis to people that are homeless and lack a place to fix a nutritional meal.

An appointment will need to be made with a Family Development Specialist to determine need and also explore any other resources available.
