Tips For Food Drives

The following is a list of tips and reminders of things to do when planning your food drive.

  • Have FUN with your event!
  • Pick the dates of your drive.
  • Perhaps plan a competition with different departments or groups in you organization to compete against each other to bring in the most/healthiest/complete food items.
  • Determine a way to make the food drive educational for everyone involved.  Contact CAC about food bank statistics or HUNGER 101 information to include in mailings or posters.
  • Planning theme days keeps your drive interesting and assures that you receive a variety of foods. (Tuna Tuesdays, Mac & Cheese Mondays, formula Fridays...be imaginative.)
  • Have a strategy to collect money from those that would rather donate in cash funds.  Encourage people to write checks, and let them know where they can mail checks to.  If you do collect cash try to record their name and address so acknowledgments can be sent out by the Food Bank.
  • Plan what sort of reminders you will use throughout the drive.  Posters, email trees, announcements, newsletters.  If you need help with these contact CAC.
  • Arrange how you will deliver food to the Community Food Bank
  • Register your drive on line at www.cacwhitman.com or by phone at 509-334-9147 or 1-800-482-3991.
  • Let us know if there is any outside media or publicity expected at your event.  Please check with us before sending any press releases.
  • Have Fun With Your Event!
